چکیده

This paper describes an instrument capable of studying diffuse reflection of mid-infrared (mid-IR) photons on ultrafast time scales. Femtosecond mid-IR pulses are generated by difference frequency mixing the output of an optical parametric amplifier that is pumped using a regeneratively amplified Ti:Sapphire laser. Time resolution is achieved by up-converting the diffusely reflected photons with pulses from the Ti:Sapphire oscillator. Experiments were performed on a series of powdered KBr samples containing varying amounts of carbon black. The results suggest that diffusely reflected mid-IR photons fall into two distinct categories. A small fraction of the photons travel relatively long effective path lengths (1.3-2.3 mm), while the majority traverse a much shorter distance (0.2-0.05 mm).

Femtosecond UV-pump mid-IR probe spectroscopy of the ultrafast photodissociation of azide radicals from an azidoiron\(III\) complex

The ultrafast photolysis of the cation complex [(cyclam-ac)FeN3] is studied by femtosecond spectroscopy with ultraviolet excitation and mid-infrared probing. Immediately after UV absorption, the excited complex undergoes internal conversion and azide dissociation within 2 ps. The subsequent vibrational relaxation in the electronic ground state and geminate recombination of the fragments take pl...

Ultrafast carrier dynamics in Ge by ultra-broadband mid-infrared probe spectroscopy

In this study, we carried out 800-nm pump and ultra-broadband mid-infrared (MIR) probe spectroscopy with high time-resolution (70 fs) in bulk Ge. By fitting the time-resolved difference reflection spectra [ΔR(ω)/R(ω)] with the Drude model in the 200-5000 cm-1 region, the time-dependent plasma frequency and scattering rate have been obtained. Through the calculation, we can further get the time-...

Sub-cycle slicing of phase-locked and intense mid-infrared transients

We demonstrate sub-cycle manipulation of mid-infrared optical waveforms in the time domain. This goal is accomplished via efficient reflection at a semiconductor surface induced by femtosecond interband excitation. The ultrafast response of this process allows slicing of high-field multi-terahertz transients down to the single optical cycle. Ultrabroadband and phase-stable transients with peak ...

Ultrafast and nanoscale plasmonic phenomena in exfoliated graphene revealed by infrared pump-probe nanoscopy.

Pump-probe spectroscopy is central for exploring ultrafast dynamics of fundamental excitations, collective modes, and energy transfer processes. Typically carried out using conventional diffraction-limited optics, pump-probe experiments inherently average over local chemical, compositional, and electronic inhomogeneities. Here, we circumvent this deficiency and introduce pump-probe infrared spe...

Generation of sub-30-fs microjoule mid-infrared pulses for ultrafast vibrational dynamics at solid/liquid interfaces.

We describe temporal compression of ultrabroadband, few microjoule mid-infrared (mid-IR) pulses from a noncollinear optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) employed in a sum-frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopic system, operating in total-internal-reflection geometry. The propagation of the mid-IR beam through optical materials results in a significant temporal chirp at the probed in...
